Mailbox Monday
December 6, 2010
The only reason I look forward to Mondays is because I get to see the books other people got in the mail. Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia of The Printed Page and will be hosted by Lady Q of Let Them Read Books for the month of December. (How is it December already?) Here’s what showed up at my doorstep last week:
Monday
- The Playbook by Barney Stinson and Matt Kuhn was a win from the Green Books Campaign
Tuesday
- The Linen Queen by Patricia Falvey came from Hachette Books
- Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson came from Hachette Books
- Georgia Bottoms by Mark Childress came from Hachette Books
- Tiger Hills by Sarita Mandanna came from Hachette Books
- The Secret Lives of Dresses by Erin McKean from Hachette Books
- How to Say Goodbye in Robot by Natalie Standiford came from Scholastic Books

Wow, you have some great reading ahead. Lucky girl, enjoy.
I received for review Out of Touch by Brandon Tietz from the author.
Twenty-four-year-old Aidin, a wealthy socialite and self-proclaimed “club god,” lives a magazine life based on decadence and excess that includes drugs, sex, and gourmet food. It’s a life based on surfaces in a place where the surface is all that matters. His therapist later describes him as a materialistic drug addict bent on promiscuity with self-esteem and identity issues. One morning, after a night of heavy partying, Aidin awakes completely vacant of any sensation. He can’t feel temperature. He can’t feel pressure. He can’t feel anything. After a near-fatal stint in denial, he seeks the help of Dr. Paradies, a therapist whose methods are far from conventional. She provides him with a new addiction in the form of a life list–a litany of activities to accomplish. As Aidin completes his list, he discovers talents he never knew he possessed, such as the ability to quickly learn new languages, an IQ off the charts, and amazing physical stamina. With these new discoveries, he questions his doctor’s intentions. When Aidin digs for the truth, will he slip back into his addictive habits? Or is there truly a conspiracy underway, as he suspects? The answer forces him to make a life-altering decision.
Oh wow you’ve got lots of books in there I want! The Secret Lives of Dresses sounds awesome – can’t wait for your reviews
Those look great! There are several there that are new to me.
Please Ignore Vera Dietz was ah-may-zing! I hope you enjoy it.
I also have A Secret Kept by Tatiana DeRasnay coming (ordered it). I fell in love with Sarah’s Key, which sits comfortably on my “favorites” shelf. I wonder if A Secret Kept will be up there too?
Looks like some great books Kathy. Enjoy.
I love this eclectic mix of books, I particularly like the sound of: ‘The Linen Queen’, ‘Tiger Hills’ and ‘A Secret Kept’, some great synopses for these titles.
I am not sure how some of you bloggers out there are able to read so many books in a relatively short space of time.
I only manage to get a few minutes each day with a book and it is really frustrating, as my TBR pile, is growing so much faster than I can read them.
I may need to learn speed reading!!!
A wonderful pile of new books! Kate Akinson’s book intrigues me as do many of the others!
Enjoy!
Nice pile! I was looking through your last few MM posts as well – and you sure have got some really must-read titles! Enjoy your books!

You’re killing me! I just HAD to add three of those books to my list. Yikes … I need to take the Evelyn Wood Speed Reading Course! LOL!!!!!!!
Looks like you had a great week! I’ll keep an eye out for your review of A Secret Kept. I liked Sarah’s Key, so I’m hoping this one is good, too.

I’m listening to A Secret Kept right now and think that it may be a better book to read than listen to. I’ll be interested in your review.
