Author event and giveaway: Donna Ball

November 9, 2010

I recently attended a Book Your Lunch event with Donna Ball and I found her to be delightful.   Donna started writing in 1982 and has written over 80 books in that time.  She was written lots of different genres – romance, mystery, fantasy, women’s fiction, etc – under several different pen names.  (Donna Ball is her real name.)   A Wrinkle in Time inspired her to become a writer – she read it over and over again.  She loves to write romance, but of all her books, her favorite series has been her Devancroix Dynasty books.   Donna’s latest series is The Ladybug Farm books – she wrote them because she wanted to write “grown up books for grown up women.”   She has been careful to make each book in the series stand alone, so they can be read out of order.   Here’s what she had to say at the lunch:

I got Donna to autograph a copy of the first book in the series – A Year on Ladybug Farm for one lucky reader. To enter to win A YEAR ON LADYBUG FARM by Donna Ball, simply fill out this entry form.  Contest is open worldwide.  I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EST Tuesday, November 23, 2010.   The winner will be announced on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.  Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

I wish I had her energy and attitude. Writing is a business (unfortunately for us more idealistic types) and you have to be productive and conduct your time as a business owner to make a living at it. I have always thought that for me writing would be a lot more fun if it didn’t require so much selling – of my work and of myself. Talent only goes so far, discipline and personality do the rest.

I am really impressed by how many books she has written since she started in 1982. What a fabulous competition.
