Toy Story 3

August 31, 2010

Andy’s getting ready to go off to college and has to clean out his room because his sister will be moving into it.  A box of toys that he means to store in the attic accidentally gets donated to a daycare center.  They’re kind of excited about it at first – after all, a toy wants nothing more than to be played with.  It doesn’t take them long to realize that the daycare center is a nightmare rather than the dream they had hoped for, so they have to figure out a way to escape.

Since there aren’t any little people around here, I forced invited Vance  to go to see Toy Story 3 with me, and I thought the movie was fantastic!  When the movie opened and I saw that Andy was going off to college, I got a little teary-eyed – how could Andy (and I) possibly be that old?  (The original Toy Story came out 15 years ago, if you can believe that!)

I thought this movie had so much for the whole family – it explored themes such as friendship, loyalty and cooperation with lots of fun and humor.  Kids can learn some lessons without even knowing it and adults can sit back and enjoy the subtle humor.  (I thought the scenes with Barbie and Ken were just hilarious!)  I did think the escape scene was a little long, but then, I’m not crazy about chase scenes or fight scenes, so that could just be me.

The end of the movie is so good and sentimental, but boy, did it make me cry.  If you’re a mom going to see this movie, make sure you take some tissues with you!  This clip isn’t in the movie, but I think it’s hilarious, so I’m including it just for fun:

Me me! I loved it too! Great review, Kathy! I also cried. :)

I’ve heard that this was a bit of a tearjerker. Despite the tears I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I saw dads crying too! We loved this movie, probably more than the other two. Which is really not what I expected. Since when does the 3rd movie outshine the earlier ones?

I always have to force my husband to these movies too, but it’s worth it, and usually he ends up crying as well! :–) (although I don’t think he has forgiven me yet for Dr. Doolittle Two)

I can’t wait to see this. The Girl and I have watched the other Toy Story movies many times. I’m really looking forward to the Barbie and Ken scenes. We couldn’t stop laughing when we saw the trailer.

Great review. Sounds like a wonderful movie. I enjoyed the first two. We usually round up some of our cousins’ children to take making it fun to watch them watch the movie, as well as the movie.

I have heard from others that this movie will make you cry buckets. I loved the video you posted and can’t wait to see this movie. I may wait until it’s on video and then watch all three from the comfort of my living room. Great review, Kathy!

I’ve heard only wonderful things – thanks for sharing your review! Must add to Netflix line-up when available.

It’s very sweet that you and Vance saw it together :) I never saw the second one so I’m a little behind!

  10. August 31, 2010 9:14 am

I bawled at the end and I had no idea it was going to do me in like that — loved this movie!!

  11. August 31, 2010 9:32 am

We all loved this movie too. I didn’t realize the original Toy Story was that long ago. Anyway, I never did see Toy Story 1 and 2, but still enjoyed it anyway :D

  12. August 31, 2010 11:19 am

My mother-in-law took the kids to see this one, so I haven’t seen it yet. I’ll be getting it on dvd for sure though.

My 17 year old daughter and I saw this at the drive in this summer. We loved it! I got a bit teary eyed too. My daughter totally lost it at the end! Great movie for all ages!

  14. August 31, 2010 12:58 pm

I went to see this when my niece and nephew were here this summer and we loved it! I really got a kick out of the latin side of Buzz Lightyear! lol

  15. August 31, 2010 1:46 pm

I am sure that this would make me cry as well. Thanks for the warning! This sounds like a wonderful family movie. :)

  16. August 31, 2010 1:57 pm

My kids are still talking about how much I cried during the ending!

  17. August 31, 2010 2:14 pm

I’m not a fan of TS3. Maybe it’s because my 5 year old was genuinely scared when he saw his friends slipping toward a fire pit of doom. :( He also had nightmares about Latso the evil bear. Poor little guy.

I did love the Ken clip, though!

  18. August 31, 2010 2:39 pm

I loved everything about this movie… I have no shame so I’m going to tell you that I cried… :)

  19. August 31, 2010 2:45 pm

Gosh, I never saw the second one. I need to catch up!
And I cry at hallmark commercials, so tissues would be required, without question.

  20. August 31, 2010 3:17 pm

I am so taking Big Kid to see this…..now where are my tissues?

  21. August 31, 2010 5:46 pm

I loved every single moment of this one. And you weren’t alone with the crying at the end. Funny thing is that my boys gave away their Buzz Lightyear and Woody toys just a few years ago. Now with my oldest moving on with his life the ending really packed a heart punch.

  22. August 31, 2010 7:35 pm

Wasn’t this so good? I was bawling at the end. My son just loved it. I think it has the perfect blend of adult and kid humor.

  23. August 31, 2010 8:26 pm

I probably would cry at the scene when the child goes off to college. I cried like a baby when we left both our boys after helping them move into their dorms. LOL Can’t understand, tho, they both had huge smiles on their faces lol… Good review.

OMG! I didn’t know that the original TS came out 15 years ago. I knew it was long ago, but didn’t know 15 was the number. And I remember very very well when that TS1 came out. :-o I have to ask your same question – how could I be that old?

I liked this movie too – it was really cute and fun!

  25. August 31, 2010 9:25 pm

I admit I got teary-eyed towards the end of the show!

  26. August 31, 2010 10:21 pm

I really loved this too!! Barbie and Ken were hilarious, for sure. And the end made me teary-eyed as well. :( I’m in college myself now so it’s a bit sad to see Andy leaving.

  27. September 1, 2010 2:45 am

I’m so looking forward to watching this. I bet I’ll cry too.

  28. September 1, 2010 5:29 am

I love Woody and Buzz! I cant wait to watch it!

  29. September 1, 2010 11:09 am

I’m avoiding this one, even though I do have a kid in the house. I can’t stand tearjerkers.

  30. September 1, 2010 4:01 pm

Toy Story is one of my favorites that I used to watch over and over again when my son was little. I’ve got to see this latest although I know it will tug at my heartstrings since my son is off to college in two short years.

  31. September 1, 2010 6:05 pm

I want to see this and no one in my family does! I shall wait for the video. It sounds fun.

  32. September 1, 2010 7:54 pm

Thanks for the warning, Kathy. I’d be sure to carry some tissues with me. :D

  33. September 1, 2010 9:13 pm

I love the Toy Story movies but haven’t seen this one yet. So glad to hear you liked it. I can’t wait!! I love a movie that has something for the kids and the adults.

  34. September 2, 2010 12:08 am

I so loved the original story and I can not believe that was 15 years ago! I must have been what … 3? LOL ok… maybe I was a bit older.

  35. September 2, 2010 4:03 am

My husband wants to watch this movie, but I haven’t watched the first 2, so I’m not really interested. But I guess I should just give in.

  36. September 2, 2010 8:15 am

I loved the ‘Ken’ video. too funny.
I wonder…is this movie out in DVD yet? It would be a great movie to take to the cabin with us this weekend.

  37. September 2, 2010 1:30 pm

Have to take the wee one to see it but to be honest it’s more for me than anyone else. Great review now wish me luck for getting the clan together for movie night :)

  38. September 3, 2010 4:19 am

OK,You have convinced me to go see this movie :)

  39. September 4, 2010 8:03 pm

I think this is one Pixar movie that is more enjoyable for the adults than it is for the kids. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to purchase the DVD.
