Wondrous Words Wednesday
Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading. If you want to play along, grab the button, and join the fun! (Don’t forget to leave a link in the comments if you’re participating.) All of my words this week came from my nifty Word-a-Day calendar. I obviously need to read some more challenging books!
1. anent– “Anent the issue of whether the agreement is valid and legally binding, the court has found no objection.”
Anent means about or concerning. Anent is an old word that almost became obsolete, but was revived in the 19th century. It’s rarely used in speech these days, but can be found in written sources.

2. fissiparous – “The reorganization of management can have a fissiparous effect on the rest of the company.”
Try saying fissiparious three times fast! Fissiparous means tending to break up into parts.

3. indite– “He proceeded to indite a note to Biddy with my love in it.” — Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
Indite means to compose; also: to put into writing.

Indite, I am familiar with, the other 2 are new. And I think fissiparious just sounds funny lol.

I go through periods where none of my books have challenging words either. But lately, “The Last Ember” is giving TOO many new words. ha.

Completely, unfamiliar with these words, but I like indite.
Fissiparous has so many possibilities! Party game: say it 3 times fast AFTER 2 margaritas! (actually, as you point out, even without ANY margaritas!) Or spelling bee: you could knock out a lot of people with that one!
“Fissiparous” is an excellent word! I love it.
I like #2…that’s what I did over the weekend to my hubby’s riding toy!!
I actually like the first word…I think I will try to work that one into conversation today.

I like fissiparous – nobody would have a clue what you were talking about. lol.
Fissiparous is a very odd looking word. I don’t know any of them!
I came across “massif” in two different places, so it stuck with me. It’s a term for a chain of mountains in a distinct region. It seemed odd to run across it twice in one day. One was an article on Mont Blanc, the other in the book Unbound (about China).
