BEA/NY Day 3

June 13, 2010

Julie and I got up early Wednesday morning, because we had to catch the shuttle bus across the street from our hotel at 7:00 AM since we were attending the Children’s Author Breakfast.  There was quite a line for the breakfast when we got to the Javits Center, but we still managed to sit with Alea, Cindy and Gail.  (left to right: Alea, Gail and Julie)

The Master of Ceremonies for this breakfast was Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, so there was a lot of paparazzi in the room.   The Duchess joked about her latest predicament, but overall, I felt like she was not very well prepared for her role.   Mitali Perkins, Richard Peck and Cory Doctorow were all awesome!   I’m excited about all of their books after hearing them speak.

After the breakfast, we hit the trade show floor for a while and managed to pick up some books and speak with some authors and publishers.  Before we knew it, it was time to head to the Harper Collins booth to ride to the tea with Adriana Trigiani!!   My whole time in New York was fantastic, but this event is the one that stands out the most to me!  I have been a huge fan of Adriana’s for years and have even sent her adoring emails, so I was more excited than you’ll know about the tea.  I was not disappointed!  Adriana is amazing and did a wonderful job of including everyone in the conversation.  I am proud that I was actually able to form a complete sentence in her presence and I have to say I love her even more after this event.  A big thanks to TLC Book Tours and Harper Collins for hosting the contest for this event. (left to right: me, Julie, Lenore, Adriana, Sheila, Dawn, Trish and Jennifer)

After the tea, Julie, Dawn and I managed to navigate the subway (thanks to Dawn and a kind stranger!) and went back to our hotels to freshen up for the party Harper Collins threw for bloggers at the legendary Algonquin Hotel.  We were able to walk from our hotel and met up Laura along the way.  Harper Collins did a great job and the party was loads of fun!  Pack a room full of book bloggers and the volume gets high, but it’s such a great time!

After the party, Julie and I headed to Chipolte with Candace, Dawn and Jill to eat and visit and we stayed until they closed the place down.   Julie and I went back to our hotel exhausted, but in a good way!

Looks like a lot of fun! I was surprised to see in the news that the Duchess of York was there so soon after her debacle so it’s interesting that she wasn’t even that good anyway. Looks like everything else more than made up for it!
