Review: Read, Remember, Recommend For Teens
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to review the reading journal Read, Remember, Recommend and I just loved it, so I was really excited when Rachelle Rogers Knight sent me Read, Remember, Recommend for Teens. Don’t let the title make you think this reading journal is just for teens – there’s a lot in here for adults, even those without children. This journal is divided into 6 parts:
- Awards and Notable Lists – This includes everything from The National Book Award for Young People’s Literature to topic specific lists compiled by libraries. I think my favorite list is 101 Great Books: Recommended for College-Bound Readers which was compiled by the sponsors of SAT Test and AP Program. One of the great things about these lists is that they’re coded as juvenile nonfiction, juvenile fiction, fiction and nonfiction and the recommended age is also included. Readers can keep track of the books they own here.
- To Read – Use this section of the book to keep track of books you hope to read and why.
- Journal Pages – There are pages to write about anything you want in this section. Also included are areas to keep track of your reading. This section is great, although I think prolific writers will want more blank pages.
- Recommendations – This is where you keep track of the books you plan to recommend to others.
- Loaner Lists – Exactly what it sounds like – a great place to keep track of who’s borrowing your books.
- Resources – The final section of the journal includes web sites (including author sites and blogs) to peruse as well as a list of literary terms and two great indexes – one lists book by author and the other by title.
I love this journal and hope to explore some of the books in it soon! I would have been in heaven if I’d had something like this as a teen!

Oooh – as a big fan of YA, I bet I’d find this very useful.
Me, too! Bookwork me would have loved this when I was a teen.
I saw these (the teens and adult version) in a bookstore recently, and they really look wonderful!
I keep seeing these on blogs, and I really want one! This is exactly the type of journal I would love.
Totally agree. I would have loved this book — who am I kidding? I still love it!
Thanks for sharing on Kid Konnection!
I remember your review of the adult version. I like this idea for everyone but this one for teens is going to be the next purchase for my oldest granddaughter. Why didn’t I think of this idea before?
I love YA books, too, and agree–great resource!
wow..i have to read this!
These journals are such a great idea. And a special one for teens might help them to plan and organize their thoughts and their writing. Great review!
Hey I just got two copies of this today. One for my daughter and one for my niece, both are having birthdays soon. I hope they like it, because I think it is really great!
I could really use this!
I know this journal is fun. Thanks for writing about it.
The journals sound like so much fun. I haven’t had the occasion to see them in real life yet, but if I do I will definitely take a better look at them!
I wish there was a journal like this when I was younger too, especially during the phase where I might have thought of myself more as a reluctant reader. It’s the journal great? =)
I will see you on Thursday! =)
What a cool idea. I like anything that encourages teens to read!
I’m sure this is just as wonderful as the one for adults! I would love to peek into those award lists!
Kathy,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for posting it on Julie’s site. I’m so glad you like the teen one as well. I hadn’t read much YA before I set out to create this – but now I’m hooked.
Happy reading!
Rachelle
I bet my daughter would just love this. I am thinking about grabbing a copy of each version; one for her, and one for me. Great review, Kathy, this looks like a wonderful resource!!
What a great book to have in one’s collection! A very organized way of reading. Thanks for sharing!
