SIBA Trade Show
Today was the first day of the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Trade Show and I had every intention of writing a comprehensive re-cap tonight. After being at the show from 9:30 this morning until 9:00 tonight, I’m too pooped to string together sentences that make much sense, so this will be brief.
I was lucky enough to hear a lot of authors speak today – Leila Meacham, Donna Ball, Anna Fields, Richard Peck, Silas House, Patricia Reilly Griff, Mary Alice Monroe, Mindy Friddle, Elizabeth Kostova, Robert Hicks and Robert Edsel, just to name a few. The atmosphere was very informal so I had the opportunity to speak to a lot of them one on one as well. It was heavenly for this book geek!
I also met a lot of independent booksellers and I must tell you these people are passionate about the written word. They get together to exchange ideas and they had a lot of questions for me about blogging and Twitter. It was obvious that they want to know what to do to please their customers. You should seriously consider giving an indie bookseller your business the next time you purchase a book.
I promise to have more detailed posts about the SIBA Trade Show next week.

I can’t wait to hear about today!
Sounds like it was an absolutely wonderful time.
Sure wish I had the opportunity to go an event like this. There are few book-geeks in the midwest too
I wanted to go to this (it’s not too far for me) but we have so many overlapping kid commitments today that there was just no way. ::sigh:: I’m pretty sure one of my favorite indie booksellers is there though: Sally from Park Road Books here in Charlotte. If you run across her, give her a shout for me.
Did you have a chance to speak to Elizabeth Kostova? I don’t know why, but she seems like she’s be really interesting.

How fun! It sounds like you had a very busy day. No wonder you were so tired when you got home.
Looking forward to more of your thoughts about SIBA.
Wow! I would have loved to attend this! : )
That is a seriously long day. I don’t blame you for holding off on the big post. Those are some exciting authors. I cannot wait to hear more!
I’m sure you’re having a great time, Kathy … we’re all looking forward to your posts about SIBA (but no hurry, we know you need to sleep!)
I’m definitely interested in buying more books from independent book sellers in the future. I’ve just found it difficult to figure out where the best stores and outlets are. I’ve discovered a few online, but haven’t really gotten that into it yet. Any suggestions for me?
Peck and Giff!!! You lucky gal you! I love both of them so very much. Sounds like a fun but exhausting day
You lucky lucky gal! I look forward to your detailed post. =)
When you have time & are well rested I’ll look forward to the conference post.
PS I totally agree with the need to support indie booksellers!
I am so looking forward to your comprehensive post on this. If there are Indie bookstores here in Malaysia, I’d definitely support them.
Sounds like Heaven to me too! My husband and I have monthly date nights and I told him that he should have taken me to DC this weekend for our date
He just laughed!
This sounds like it was a great event. They had something similar in my area but it was very expensive to attend. Looking forward to hearing more details about your experiences.
I can’t wait to read your more detailed post, this sounded like so much fun!
Sounds like it was an awesome event!
