BBAW: Under the influence of blogs
It’s Book Blogger Appreciation Week and this year’s theme is “Celebrate Books.” With that in mind, today’s topic is:
Today we encourage you to blog about a book you read only because you discovered it on another book blog. Preferably, this will be a book you loved! You might also write a bit about the blog you discovered it on!
When I started my blog in June of 2008, I had no idea there was a huge community of book bloggers, but I did know of a few. Two of my early discoveries were The Literate Housewife Review and The Book Lady’s Blog (although it had a different name at the time, but that’s another story). Both of these women are intelligent, articulate and just a little bit sassy and I wanted my blog to just like theirs. (I still haven’t achieved that goal, but I haven’t give up either.) When I saw that they had both read, reviewed and loved The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson, I knew I had to read it. These ladies didn’t let me down – I read the book and loved it, too.
The Gargoyle was probably the first book I read because of blogs, but almost all of my purchases these days are because of a review I read on a blog.

Interesting book cover! I’m glad that these ladies were able to lead you to a winning choice
I remember Jennifer recommending this! So it is really good? EW said it was one of the worst books of 2008!!! Well what do they know anyway?
Love the title of your post!
I am not sure that I can narrow down my list. Since last December the vast majority of the books I have read have come recommended from book bloggers, and I have not been steered wrong yet.
I’ve had that one on my wish list for a long time, but haven’t read it yet. Now I have three smart women telling me it’s good. I feel myself caving.
It is on my TBR pile!
BBAW: Thanking Feminist Review
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but alas as I read it in 2008 and didn’t start blogging until 2009 – I haven;t reviewed it. perhaps I’ll do a retro review
I still need to read this one.
I actually think I heard about The Gargoyle from non-blog sources, but I feel like I’ve heard about most books from blogs!
I remember all the hype about this one last year. It was one of the first ARCs I received and I loved it too! I thought it was quite sad that it apparently turned out to be a flop, but it was a great find for us at least!
I still haven’t read The Gargoyle, but I have heard a lot of great things about it. Most of my reading lately is due to reviews found on blogs too.
I still haven’t read this one…someday.
I’ve been following Rebecca’s blog for a long time but I don’t remember a name change. It’s the AGE creeping in.
I had this one on my list for the same reason. I heard about it from Rebecca and then never got around to it. It’s the story of my life unfortunately.
I love your post title!! And sassy is such a good quality!
When I first started blogging about books, I had no idea there were so many book blogs either!
Excellent post! I will stop by the blogs you mention.
I had that one on my TBR pile for so long without reading it, that I finally gave it away.
I absolutely loved this book! I am glad that you enjoyed it too. It’s a great first pick from a blog.
The Gargoyle is a great book and I’m so glad that I played a role in one other person reading it.
With the exception of the book I bought for GalleySmith’s Literary Road Trip, every book I’ve bought this year has come from a book blogger’s recommendation.
I loved this book. Bought it at Costco because my daughter said it looked like a book that I would like. It was one of my very first reviews… I haven’t forgotten it.
Sheri
oh yea! Do you think this would be a good book for a club to discuss?
I still haven’t read this book! Now I’ve to move it up from my TBR pile.
I just had this book recommended to me by one of the writers in my writers’ group – Debra Hale.
And I wanted to congratulate you on winning for Most Concise Blog at BBAW. *applause*
I like that it’s possible to know another blogger’s tastes and then trust them for good recommendations. I’m glad you found the right bloggers to follow.
Have to agree with you that most of the books I buy now are from book blog recommendations. My poor wishlist is exploding! *L*
Will check out The Gargoyle, as I haven’t heard of this one before.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Two wonderful blogs, definitely! I haven’t read The Gargoyle – will have to check it out. And I’m like you – these days, nearly everything I read has been because another blogger wrote about it.
Please stop by my blog when you have a chance–I have an award for you!
Seriously all the books I buy are because of book bloggers recommendations
I so agree with you! I’m reading this book for the RIP challenge. I can’t wait!
“under the influence!” LOL!
I haven’t yet read THE GARGOYLE, but if you, Rebecca, and Jennifer all recommend it, what am I waiting for?!?
Fellow book bloggers have a huge influence on what I read and buy now!! I love it
I haven’t heard one bad review for The Gargoyle but I’m still a bit hestitant about picking it up.
I just started listening to this book and so far – so good! I’ll have to check out your review when I’m done.
